This workshop will provide the participants with the fundamentals of qualitative case study designs. The targeted audience is those who are beginners in this area of research and would like to find out more about the principles and guidelines for designing qualitative case studies. I will be introducing the major authors and examples of qualitative case studies.

Applying phenomenology: Exploring the depth of human experience

In this half-day workshop, you will learn what phenomenology as a qualitative methodology can offer and how to make the most of its strengths. Particularly, you will learn how to use the phenomenological interview as a means to draw out your research participants’ understanding of the social phenomenon at the centre of your research. Examples of real research that adopted this philosophical perspective will be referred to so that you can understand how phenomenology is applied. True to the tradition of qualitative research, you will also explore how this methodology can be differently adapted across different contexts.
